Domestic Milk Intake by milk processors and co-ops was estimated at 330.4 million litres in February 2024, a decrease of 50.6 million litres (-13.3%) when compared with February 2023 and down 37.1 million litres (-10.1%) when compared with the same month in 2022.
Fat content for February 2024 was 4.44%, down from 4.46% in February 2023. Protein content also fell from 3.50% to 3.43% in the 12 months to February 2024.
Butter production decreased from 11,700 tonnes in February 2023 to 7,600 tonnes in February 2024.
Domestic Milk Intake for the period January to February 2024 was estimated at 478.9 million litres, a decline of 82.5 million litres (-14.7%) when compared with the same period in 2023, and down by 71.8 million litres (-13.0%) when compared with January to February 2022.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (05 April 2024) published Milk Statistics for February 2024.
Commenting on the release Giselle Myles, Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said: “The figures show that the domestic milk intake for February 2024 was 330.4 million litres, down 13.3% on February 2023. Fat and Protein content dropped to 4.44% from 4.46% and 3.43% from 3.50% respectively over the same period."
