Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 277.7 million litres for December 2022, a 7.4% increase when compared with December 2021.
Fat content rose from 4.75% in December 2021 to 4.85% in December 2022. Protein content increased from 3.72% to 3.76% over the same period.
Skim Milk Powder production was up by 3,100 tonnes in December 2022 (10,500 tonnes) when compared with December 2021 (7,400 tonnes), an increase of 41.8%.
Butter production rose from 12,200 tonnes in December 2021 to 13,900 tonnes in December 2022, an increase of 14.3%.
In 2022, Domestic Milk Intake was estimated at 8,819.7 million litres, an increase of 61.3 million litres (0.7%) when compared with 2021.
Skim Milk Powder production rose from 147,700 tonnes in 2021 to 173,700 tonnes in 2022, an increase of 26,000 tonnes (17.6%).
Butter production decreased from 275,600 tonnes in 2021 to 268,700 in 2022.
Table 1 presents analysis on month versus month and year-to-date comparisons of the current year and previous year's domestic milk intake.
Figure 1 shows up-to-date trends of monthly domestic milk intake for 2021 and 2022.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (03 February 2022) published Milk Statistics for December 2022.
Commenting on the release, Donal Kelly, Senior Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said:
“The figures show an increase in Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers of 7.4% in December 2022, when compared with the same month in 2021. Domestic Milk Intake grew by 0.7% to 8,820 million litres during the period January to December 2022, compared with the same period in 2021. This is the lowest annual increase in Domestic Milk Intake since milk quotas were abolished in 2015."
