Seasonal variations are most prominent in the residential sector. Quarterly median consumption in 2025 peaked between January and March at 907 kWh, compared with a low of 625 kWh from July to September.
There was an 11% increase in the total number of residential meters between 2016 and 2025. The highest increases were in Dublin County, Meath, and Kildare - all at 21%, followed by Wicklow with 17% (See Table 2.8). These figures indicate that the counties with the highest increase in the number of residential meters are those adjacent to Dublin city.
Within Dublin Postal Districts, Dublin 15 had the highest number of residential meters of 44,302 in 2025, followed by Dublin 24 with 41,507 meters. The highest increase of 5% was observed in Dublin 22 when compared with 2024.
Around 10% of residential customers consumed less than 1,000 kWh in 2025 which was less than one-third of the median consumption of 3,228 kWh. Low metered electricity consumption can indirectly indicate factors such as vacant properties, holiday homes, or energy poverty, and are also influenced by dwelling size and energy efficiency.
