Live Register June 2025

The seasonally adjusted Live Register rose by 1.3% to 168,500 people in June 2025

Key Findings

  • The seasonally adjusted Live Register total for June 2025 was 168,500 people, up by 2,200 people or 1.3% from May 2025.

  • The unadjusted Live Register total stood at 172,663 people for June 2025, of which 54.1% were male and 72.1% were Irish.

  • The 25-34 years age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register in June 2025 at 41,075 people or 23.8% of the total.

  • The counties that recorded the largest percentage increases in the number of people on the Live Register in the 12 months to June 2025 were Dublin (+4.2%) and Kildare (+2.4%), while the largest decreases were in Kerry (-17.4%) and Clare (-12.8%).

  • In June 2025 there were 116,439 people on the Live Register for less than one year, which was 3,636 more people (+3.2%) than in June 2024.

Statistician's Comment

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (04 July 2025) published results from the Live Register for June 2025.

Commenting on today’s release, Conor Delves, Statistician in the Labour Market Analysis Section, said:

“The unadjusted Live Register total for June 2025 was 172,663. When seasonal effects are considered, the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for June 2025 was 168,500 or 2,200 more people than May 2025.

There were 12,063 people benefitting from the EU's Temporary Protection Directive included in the Live Register figures for June 2025, an increase of 4 people from May 2025.

The counties that recorded the largest percentage decreases in numbers on the Live Register in the 12 months to June 2025 were Kerry, down 1,145 people (-17.4%) and Clare, down 541 people (-12.8%). The counties that recorded the largest percentage increases were Dublin, up 1,855 people (+4.2%), and Kildare, up 159 people (+2.4%) - (See PxStat Table LRM15).

The number of people on the Live Register for one year or more in June 2025 was 56,224 which was 5,882 fewer people (-9.5%) than a year earlier. There were 116,439 people on the Live Register for less than one year, which was 67.4% of the total number of people on the Live Register.”

Data in this release are subject to revision based on updates to the seasonally adjusted series whenever new monthly data are added, such revisions are typically very minor in scale. It should be noted that larger revisions can occur when the comprehensive annual review of the seasonal adjustment model is carried out in January of each year. See Background Notes for further details.

The June 2025 Live Register includes claims for the new Jobseeker’s Pay Related Benefit (PRB) scheme. The scheme was introduced on Monday 31 March 2025 for persons who became fully unemployed on or after that date. Pay Related Benefit data for April 2025 is now available and Jobseeker’s Benefit data for April 2025 has been revised. Figures by type of Social Welfare Scheme are available on PxStat Tables LRM01 and LRM18.

The number of Jobseeker's Allowance claims decreased by 5.3% (-6,328) in June 2025 compared with 12 months earlier

The number of Jobseeker’s Benefit claims decreased by 23.0% (-10,014) in June 2025 compared with 12 months earlier.*

*The number of Jobseeker’s Pay Related Benefit claims recorded in June 2025 was 15,844. Jobseeker’s Pay Related Benefit is a new scheme introduced on 31 March 2025 – see note above.

There were 33,146 persons availing of activation programmes in May 2025, representing a decrease of 910 persons (-2.7%) from the previous year

Data up to the end of May 2025 on the number of persons availing of a range of programmes targeted primarily at the long-term unemployed (over 12 months) and other welfare recipients is provided in PxStat table LRM14.

Persons on activation programmes are not counted as part of the monthly Live Register.

63.9% of those benefitting from TPD in June 2025 were female (7,711). 89.4% (10,786) of all recipients were over 25 years old
