Cloud computing is on-demand access, via the internet, to computing resources such as software and data storage.
The most popular type of cloud computing service in 2025 was e-mail with 64.2% of enterprises availing of this service, followed by cloud computing for office software (58.1%). Other types of cloud computing software purchased by enterprises in 2025 was finance or accounting software (52.9%), storage of files (51.8%), and security software (42.6%).
Almost two in ten (16.6%) enterprises purchased cloud computing for hosting and managing cloud-based ERP software, while 13.9% used it to provide a platform for application development, testing or deployment.
The most common cloud computing service provided to enterprises was email. More than two-thirds (68.1%) of Manufacturing enterprises used email, compared with 69.5% of Construction enterprises and 62.8% of selected Services enterprises.
Six in ten (62.7%) Construction enterprises used cloud computing for office software compared with 61.3% of Manufacturers and 56.9% of selected Services enterprises. A higher proportion of selected Services enterprises used cloud computing for CRM (21.7%) compared with Manufacturing (16.8%) and Construction (6.1%). Construction enterprises were less likely to use cloud computing to provide a platform for application development, testing or deployment (7.7%) compared with 15.0% for Services and 13.1% for Manufacturing.
