Two in five enterprises had e-commerce sales

In 2024, two in five enterprises (40.4%) in Ireland had e-commerce sales. An e-commerce sale is a sale conducted over computer networks via websites, apps or Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) of goods or services. For large enterprises, 53.7% had internet sales, compared with 51.3% of medium sized enterprises and 37.9% of small enterprises.

Services sector had the highest rate of web sales

In the Manufacturing sector, more than half (51.1%) of firms conducted sales by internet in 2024. In the same sector, 37.1% of enterprises made sales through websites, while 26.3% of enterprises indicated that they conducted sales through EDI.

More than four in ten (42.3%) of Services firms conducted sales electronically in 2024 with 38.9% of enterprises in services conducting sales through websites, and almost one in ten (9.3%) indicating they made sales by EDI.

In 2024, 16.3% of Construction firms conducted sales by internet, with 13.0% of firms conducting sales through websites, and 5.3% indicating they made sales by EDI.
