Dublin had the highest median annual earnings in 2022 at €46,136, followed by Kildare (€45,173), Meath (€43,557), Wicklow (€43,140) and Cork (€42,763), all of which were greater than the median annual earnings of the State at €41,823. The lowest median annual earnings were in Donegal (€33,523), Monaghan (€34,707) and Longford (€36,178). Similar trends were observed in mean annual earnings (See Tables 2.2 and 2.3).
The highest median annual earnings were in Dublin across seven of the thirteen economic sectors, where annual earnings ranged from €27,197 in Accommodation & Food Services to €82,103 in Information & Communication. Similarly, the Information & Communication sector had the highest median annual earnings in 17 counties in 2022. The lowest median annual earnings in nine economic sectors were recorded in Donegal, where annual earnings ranged from €18,574 in Arts, Entertainment, Recreation & Other Services to €53,337 in the Education sector.
Mean annual earnings varied among age groups. In 2022, mean annual earnings were lowest among the 15-24 years age group at €23,062, while the highest mean annual earnings were recorded in the 40-49 years age group at €59,271. Lowest mean annual earnings were recorded in the 15-24 years age category in all counties. With the exception of counties Clare, Meath, Sligo and Waterford, the highest mean annual earnings were among those in the 40-49 years age group in all counties (See Table 2.2).
Similarly, median annual earnings were lowest among the 15-24 years age cohort and highest in the 40-49 years age group. Median annual earnings in the 15-24 years age group ranged from €18,816 in Kilkenny to €22,260 in Dublin. In contrast, annual earnings in the 40-49 years age category ranged from €37,406 in Donegal to €53,500 in Dublin (See Table 2.3).
