CSO has had bicycle parking in place for several years, including the availability of bikes for staff to use at lunchtime.
Review of existing facilities and development of further actions are being undertaken by CSO Facilities Management sections in conjunction with the Climate Action Team and their mandate on green and sustainability. The CSO is looking to pilot several initiatives to encourage sustainable travel to work.
In 2025, the CSO applied for the Smarter Travel Mark. This is a three-tier certification that recognises and celebrates organisations that support active and sustainable travel on the commute and beyond for their workforce and visitors, resulting in a reduction in single-person car usage. The Smarter Travel Mark will recognise basic measures that we have in place, that support sustainable and active commuting, and that we are committed to looking into further smarter travel options.
We plan to partner with our Well-Being division to promote sustainable travel alternatives to travelling by car. We will focus on communications and encourage staff to take alternative transport when getting to and from the office. We will research and propose a smarter travel policy. We already provide some on-site facilities which support sustainable travel, such as showers, an area to change, and bike sheds. The CSO is also exploring the possibility of a dedicated e-bicycle shed.
The introduction of a parking space booking app in the Rathmines office has allowed the office to start reducing off-site parking facilities, making the best use of the parking spaces available on-site.
Several car parking spaces have also been repurposed as EV charging spaces, therefore reducing the amount of car parking spaces available.
Display Energy Certificates (DEC) are displayed in our three buildings; these are updated annually and staff/public informed as required.

The CSO ran a tender for indoor cleaning services in 2025, which required the tenderer to specify their commitment and staff training on reducing the impact of the proposed services on the environment.
Each tenderer was required to include an environmental considerations proposal, which would specify an outline of staff training to ensure that all staff involved in the delivery of the contract have the knowledge and skills to apply cleaning methods that will reduce the environmental impact of the proposed services.
We are monitoring this ongoing commitment through an SLA with the awarded contractor and quarterly updates.
The CSO submitted stage 1 of the Buildings Stock Plan to the SEAI. Figures are subject to review in interim years.
