Explanatory notes

This module is being asked on behalf of Eurostat and is being conducted in all other Member States of the EU along with some other European countries. It is intended to repeat this module at particular intervals (every four to five years) in the future and build up a picture of how the transition from school to work is developing over time.

This module will help provide indicators on the labour status of recent school/college leavers and how they adapt to the labour market. The period immediately after leaving education is a critical period. What people do then will help determine their future in the labour market - i.e. what kind of job they have and what their future prospects are. At EU level there is concern that European labour markets generally aren’t working properly and that too many people can’t get a job. With the information from this module we can see in which sectors people have the most difficulty in moving from school to work, what they studied etc.

This module will be asked of all respondents who are no longer in first time education but who have only left education since 1991, i.e. in the last 10 years.

Module:

This part of the survey should be restricted to those no longer in 1st time education but who have only left since 1991, i.e. in the last 10 years. First time education is defined as full-time education from primary level to whenever a person left full-time education for the first time.
