Survey purpose and legal basis

The purpose of Agricultural Land Price Publication is to monitor trends in prices paid for purely agricultural land in Ireland.

Agricultural Land Prices are currently compiled as part of a voluntary agreement between Eurostat and EU Member States on an annual basis.

Data is provided to the CSO from Revenue and Property Registration Authority under Section 30 of the Statistics Act,1993.

Who uses the results?

Data in aggregated form is transmitted to Eurostat as part of agreement to meet EU objective to collect comparable statstical information on the prices of agricultural land use in the European Union.

Data is published to a NUTS3 level as a national publication in order to meet request from expert users and general public for more detailed prodcution of land price statistics.

Data is used by national and international agricultural agencies, Eurostat, Government Departments and the general public.

Is your personal data confidential and how long will the data be retained?

Yes all information supplied to the CSO is treated as strictly confidential. The Statistics Act 1993 sets stringent confidentiality standards: information collected may be used only for statistical purposes and no details that might be related to an identifiable person or business undertaking may be divulged to any other government department or body.

We will retain the survey data indefinitely as one of the primary purposes of the data collection is to obtain longitudinal information on agricultural land.

In addition to the data collected directly from survey respondents CSO will also make use of administrative data provided to the CSO by the Revenue Commissioners (Price and Area information from Stamp Duty Returns) and Property Registration Authority (Location and Commonage indicators).
