Notice of Change of Rebasing Period for CPI

The CSO are currently in the process of doing a full rebase of the Consumer Price Index (CPI). From January 2017 onwards, the CPI will be published to base mid December 2016=100. The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) will continue to be published to base 2015=100.

The update of the current CPI resulted in a number of methodological changes:

  • Updating the expenditure weights to sub index level based on data from National Accounts and the Household Budget Survey.
  • A revision of the sample of goods and services to ensure that we continue to price goods/services that remains representative of consumer preferences.

The January 2017 release (release date in February) will be accompanied by a press release and methodological documents outlining the details of the rebase.

If you have any questions or concerns in relation to the rebasing of CPI, please contact a member of the consumer prices team in the CSO.
