What's in CSPE School Activity Pack?


Overview:

This module has been written to enable students and teachers of Civic, Social and Political Education (CSPE) to explore the use of a Census, in general and to raise awareness about Census 2002, in particular, in schools. It focuses on the concept of DEVELOPEMENT and how census information enables local authorities and central government to plan future developments. It also includes an ACTION PROJECT - students can carry out their very own Class/Year Group Census and present the results

  • Aims:
  • To raise awareness about Census 2002.
  • To enable students to understand a Census.
  • To show students how Census information is used.
  • To take part in a Census Action Project.

    Duration: 6 - 10 classes

  • Class 1: Community Development - the concept Using local newspapers, newsletters, photographs, posters of events, protests, etc. in your local community explore and list all the CHANGES that are taking place in your community at the moment.

  • Class 2: What is a Census? Fill in a census form for your "Censustown" character.

  • Class 3: How a census can affect the development of a community. Censustown planning activity - 2 Alternatives.

  • Class 4/5/6: Planningfor Class/Year Group/Whole School Census.

    The Calculating Group

  • Class 7: School Census Week, April 22 to April 28, 2002.
    Hold School Census.

  • Class 8/9: Collate and Tabulate Results.

  • Class 10: Census 2002 - A National Perspective.

  • Optional: Write up a Report on an Action Project.
