Health Research Data Centre (RDC)

On this page you will find all relevant information about the Health Research Data Centre (RDC).

The Health RDC is a secure environment for access to the data collected by the CSO for health research purposes under the Health Research Regulation, 2018.

The list of available data will be regularly updated and published on the research microdata files (RMF) register. However, if there is any other CSO dataset you might deem relevant for your research, that possibility can be discussed.

It is important to note that every researcher interested in submitting an application for access to data through the Health RDC is REQUIRED to contact HealthRDC@cso.ie prior to application, to discuss the project and data availability.

In order to get access to the data, every researcher will need three approvals

  • Approval from researcher's local Ethics Committee (REC)
  • Approval from the Health Research Consent Declaration Committee (HRCDC) if no explicit consent is available
  • Approval from the Research Data Governance Board (RDGB)

The process is outlined in more detail in the Application section.

The work of the CSO is carried out under the Statistics Act, 1993 which provides for the collection, compilation and dissemination for statistical purposes of information relating to economic, social and general activities and conditions in the State.

The CSO Data Protection Officer (DPO) is responsible for overseeing questions in relation to this Privacy Statement. If you have any questions about this statement, including any request to exercise your legal rights, please contact the CSO DPO.
