Wind by Meteorological Weather Station

The information we present on this page is related to wind information based on data from Met Éireann.

Met Éireann has a network of weather stations across the country that gather weather data. These stations provide data in monthly, daily and/or hourly intervals. These stations gather data on severable variables, including rainfall, sunshine duration, temperature and wind.

The CSO presents data from 12 of these weather stations:

• Belmullet, Casement, Claremorris, Cork Airport, Dublin Airport, Malin Head, Markree, Mullingar, Phoenix Park, Roches Point, Shannon Airport, Valentia Observatory.

All the currently available climate related tables are accessible on the CSO Open Data Platform.

Monthly Wind Data

This section presents the monthly data for wind in knots. Two monthly variables are presented for wind; mean wind speed and highest gust.

The table presents the mean wind speed in knots for ten weather stations for the most recent five months in the data table. The plot presents the mean wind speed and highest gust for Malin Head weather station for the most recent twelve months available in the data table.

Daily Wind Data

This section presents the daily data for wind in knots. Two daily variables are presented for wind; mean wind speed and highest gust.

The table presents the mean wind speed in knots for Malin Head, Dublin Airport, Shannon Airport and Cork Airport weather stations for the most recent ten days in the data table. The plot presents the mean wind speed and highest gust for Malin Head weather station for the most recent thirty days available in the data table.

Hourly Wind Data

This section presents the hourly data for wind in knots. Only the mean wind speed is presented for the hourly data.

The table presents the mean wind speed in knots for all weather stations for the most recent 24 hour period in the data table. The plot presents the mean wind speed for Malin Head, Dublin Airport, Shannon Airport and Cork Airport for the most recent full day of data available in the data table.
