The CSO Planning Permissions statistical release is compiled from data provided by 34 Local Authorities and An Bord Pleanála. Returns are received from each local authority and An Bord Pleanála and are compiled and queried if necessary. See background notes for more information.
The Quarter 1 2020 release covers all planning permissions granted in January, February and March 2020. Data was collected during the COVID pandemic while staff in the local authorities had restricted or no access to their offices from the end of March onwards. This presented challenges in collecting and verifying the data and results may be subject to revisions in the future should new information arise.
