A syntax error occurred when calculating the weights used for the main release of GUI Cohort ‘98 at age 25. A small number of respondents with an NFQ Level 6 qualification were misclassified as having an NFQ Level 5 for their highest level of education. Highest level of education was used in the model for the weights and therefore this error influenced the weights of the survey. Analysis was undertaken to correct the syntax error and produce a corrected set of weights.
In subsequent work to create the GUI Cohort ’98 at age 25 research microdata file (RMF), these corrected weights were applied. In addition, further statistical disclosure control methodologies were applied to the RMF as compared to the methods applied to the underlying datafile used to create the original GUI Cohort ’98 at age 25 main results publication. To align the results in the GUI Cohort ’98 at age 25 main results with the RMF, this publication was re-created using the RMF.
The impact of these two changes – correcting the syntax error in the weights, and applying additional statistical disclosure control - on the results presented in the original release was minor. These updates do not affect the high-level results and trends presented in the original release.
In the statistical release, the median change between the original and corrected percentage values was 0.1%. Eleven percentage values had a change of 1% or more, and one percentage change of 2% or more with the largest change in the release being 3%.
In the PxStat tables associated with this release, the median change between the original and corrected percentage was also 0.1%. The maximum change was 3.2% with 11 percentage values changing by 1% or more and two percentage values changing by 2% or more.
For the median weekly income figures (see GUI34), the following changes should be noted:
Sex | Highest level of Education | Updated Median Weekly Income (euro) | Previously Reported Median Weekly Income (euro) |
---|---|---|---|
Both sexes | NFQ Level 6 or lower | 484 | 485 |
Both sexes | NFQ Level 7 or higher | 612 | 613 |
Both sexes | All NFQ Levels | 557 | 558 |
Male | NFQ Level 6 or lower | 539 | 546 |
Male | NFQ Level 7 or higher | 622 | 625 |
Male | All NFQ Levels | 585 | 589 |
Female | NFQ Level 6 or lower | 442 | 443 |
Female | NFQ Level 7 or higher | 598 | 597 |
Female | All NFQ Levels | 526 | 525 |
Other numerical changes in the re-released version of this publication reflect changes in line with RMF procedures – for example, income quintile values had additional top-coding applied in the RMF which particularly impacted the 5th quintile (See Table 2, and GUI36).
Income Quintile | Updated 2022 Income Quintile Upper Bound (euro) | Previously Reported 2022 Income Quintile Upper Bound (euro) |
---|---|---|
1st quintile (Lowest Earnings) | 13,940.00 | 13,821.04 |
2nd quintile | 22,080.00 | 22,005.01 |
3rd quintile | 28,860.00 | 28,782.83 |
4th quintile | 36,820.00 | 36,741.02 |
5th quintile (Highest Earnings) | 85,000.80 | 98,659.28 |
