The US was Ireland’s largest export market in 2023, with €54 billion in exports. This accounted for 28% of the total value of exports. The second biggest export partner was the UK, with €22.4 billion of exports, followed by Germany with €20.4 billion.
Medical & Pharmaceutical Products and Organic Chemicals comprised €36 billion, or two-thirds of the total exports to the US in 2023.
Belgium and the Netherlands complete the list of the remaining top 5 export markets.

The UK was the biggest source of imports in 2023, with imports of over €26 billion.
Imports of Mineral Fuels, Lubricants & Related Materials were €5.5 billion. Imports of food and beverages from the UK were €4.4 billion in value, imports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products and Organic Chemicals comprised €4.5 billion, and imports of Machinery & Transport Equipment were €4 billion.
There were €23 billion of imports from the US in 2023, including imports of Chemicals & Related Products of €5.1 billion, and imports of Machinery & Transport Equipment to the value of €11.8 billion.
France, China and Germany made up the remaining top 5 import partners.
