SMEs account for 65% of all imports
There were 31,661 importing enterprises in 2017 (i.e. with goods imports of over €5,000 in the year). There were 70% of these enterprises classified as micro (less than 10 employees), and these accounted for €16.9 billion, or 20% of total imports.
Only 2% of all importing enterprises in 2017 were large in size but they imported a third of total imports in 2017. There were 31,047 SMEs importing in 2017 accounting for €53.5 billion of goods.
