Key findings

  • Latest data available show that car traffic volumes are now at 90% of August 2019 levels in the Dublin area and 91% of August 2019 levels in regional locations
  • Latest data available show that heavy goods vehicles (HGV) traffic volumes are 0.2% higher in Dublin and 0.8% higher in regional sites compared with the same week in 2020
  • There were 107 fatalities on Irish roads in the first nine months of 2021 compared with 114 in the same period in 2020, a decrease of 6%
  • In September 2021, 6,354 new private cars were licensed in Ireland, compared with 5,747 in September 2020, an increase of 11%
  • The total number of rail and bus journeys is at its highest level since beginning of the year
  • Journeys taken on the red LUAS line are now at its highest level since the beginning of the year but remain below 2019 levels
  • The number of passengers travelling through Dublin airport in August 2021 rose by 93% compared with the previous month
