This release has been compiled during the COVID-19 crisis. The results contained in this release reflect some of the economic impacts of the COVID-19 situation.

Key findings

  • Public Transport passenger journeys climbed to their highest levels since March 2020 but have not returned to pre-COVID-19 levels
  • Data for the end of April 2022 show that car traffic volumes in Dublin increased by 34% compared with week one of this year
  • Monthly peak volume of bicycles at selected Dublin sites increased by 46% compared with April 2021
  • There were 10,045 new private cars and 3,770 used (imported) private cars licensed in April 2022
  • There were 11 fatalities on Irish roads in April 2022 compared with 18 in the same month in 2021 and 9 in 2019
  • Dublin Airport passenger numbers for April 2022 were 85% of April 2019 levels
