Air passenger data shows a dramatic fall in passengers handled by Irish airports due to COVID-19 restrictions. Data on airport passengers is presented in table 4.1 and illustrated in figure 4.1. The number of passengers travelling through Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Knock and Kerry airports in March 2021 is 90.4% lower than March 2020. Note: Knock airport was closed in February and March 2021.
The total number of passengers handled by those airports in the first quarter of 2021 fell from 5,916,477 to 418,954 a drop of 92.9% when compared with the same period in 2020. The number of passengers travelling through Dublin airport in March 2021 increased by 15.0% compared to the previous month.
