Fuel excise clearances

Clearances of autodiesel in January 2022 were 34% higher than in January 2021. At 264 million litres, autodiesel clearances were less than that of 2020, with an 11% difference.
Similarly, clearances of petrol in January 2022 were higher than 2021 figures but lower than 2020. At 66 million litres, petrol clearances were 74% higher than January 2021 and 16% lower than January 2020. See table 2.1 and figure 2.1.
Statistics on the volume of fuel clearances covered by excise taxes are collected by the Revenue Commissioners. Clearances reflect the excise duties paid on oil removed from tax warehouses. This data provides a proxy for sales and the associated level of consumption, but they do not reflect actual consumption |

Vehicles Licensed

There were 13,643 new private cars and 3,929 used (imported) private cars licensed in February 2022. Compared to February 2021, this was a fall of 41% for used private cars and an increase of 17% for new private cars.

Road Fatalities

There were 13 fatalities on Irish roads in February 2022 compared with five in the same month in 2021, 19 in 2020 and 14 in 2019. See table 2.3.
