Key findings

  • Data for the week beginning 13 December 2021 (week 50) show that the volumes of private cars are 9% lower in Dublin and 8% lower in regional sites compared with the same week in 2019 (pre COVID-19)
  • Data for the week beginning 13 December 2021 (week 50) show that heavy goods vehicles (HGV) traffic volumes are 2% lower in regional sites compared with the same week in 2020
  • There were 134 fatalities on Irish roads in 2021 compared with 146 in 2020 and 140 in 2019
  • The number of new private cars licensed in December 2021 was 19% lower than December 2020
  • The number of passengers travelling through the main airports in 2021 rose by 10% compared with 2020 but is still 76% lower than 2019
