Key findings

  • Latest data available show that car traffic volumes are now at 90% of pre-pandemic November 2019 levels in the Dublin area and 86% of November 2019 levels in regional locations
  • Latest data available show that heavy goods vehicles (HGV) traffic volumes are similar in Dublin and 6% higher in regional sites compared with the same week in 2020
  • There were 119 fatalities on Irish roads in the first 11 months of 2021 compared with 138 in the same period in 2020 and 125 in 2019
  • The number of new cars licensed in November 2021 increased by 699 vehicles compared with November 2020 and by 491 vehicles compared with pre-pandemic November 2019
  • The total number of rail and bus journeys is now three-fifths of those taken in early March 2020 (pre COVID-19)
  • The number of passengers travelling through Dublin airport in October 2021 rose by 16% compared with the previous month
