Large enterprises accounted for 66% of total services exports and 68% of total service imports in 2023

  • Large enterprises with more than 250 employees made up €262bn (66%) of total service exports (€399bn) in 2023.
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with less than 250 employees, together accounted for €97bn (24%) of total service exports while small enterprises made up €76bn (19%) of the exports total.
  • The remaining 10% of service exports (€40bn) consisted of enterprises of unknown size (which represented quarterly estimates as well as travel, some financial and government services).
  • Large enterprises made up €264bn (68%) of total service imports (€387bn) in 2023.
  • SMEs accounted for €88bn (23%) of total service imports while small enterprises made up €62bn (16%) of the imports total.
  • The remaining 9% of service imports (€35bn) consisted of enterprises of unknown size. See table 3.1 and figures 3.1 and 3.2.
