Large enterprises (with more than 250 employees) made up 63% of total services exports and 67% of total service imports in 2020

  • Large enterprises with more than 250 employees made up €162bn (63%) of total service exports (€256bn) in 2020.
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with less than 250 employees, together accounted for €68bn (26%) of total service exports while small enterprises made up €47bn (18%) of the exports total.
  • The remaining 10% of service exports (€26bn) consisted of enterprises of unknown size (which represented quarterly estimates as well as travel, some financial and government services).
  • Large enterprises made up €220bn (67%) of total service imports (€328bn) in 2020. 
  • SMEs accounted for €53bn (16%) of total service imports while small enterprises made up €34bn (10%) of the imports total. 
  • The remaining 17% of service imports (€56bn) consisted of enterprises of unknown size. See table 3.1 and figures 3.1 and 3.2.
