Services Trade by Enterprise Size

Large enterprises (with more than 250 employees) made up 61% of total services exports and 78% of total service imports in 2019.

  • Large enterprises with more than 250 employees made up €140bn (61%) of total service exports (€230bn) in 2019. 
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with less than 250 employees, together accounted for €61bn (27%) of total exports while small enterprises made up €44bn (19%) of the total.
  • The remaining 13% of service exports (€29bn) consisted of enterprises of unknown size (which represented quarterly estimates as well as travel, some financial and government services).
  • Large enterprises made up €263bn (78%) of total service imports (€336bn) in 2019.
  • SMEs accounted for €48bn (15%) of total imports while small enterprises made up €33bn (10%) of the service imports total.
  • The remaining 7% of service imports (€24bn) consisted of enterprises of unknown size. See table 3.1 and figure 3.1.
