Third quarter of 2021 sees Compensation of Employees increase by 11.4% compared to corresponding period of previous year following some easing of restrictions. Largest increase seen in Professional, Admin and Support Services (15.4%), Distribution, Transport, Hotels and Restaurants (14.5%) and Information and Communication (13.3%) sectors. While Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing seen a drop of -0.7%.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, total Compensation of Employees increased by 5.6% compared to the previous quarter. Most sectors experienced an increase this quarter compared to the pervious. Largest increase in growth quarter on quarter can be seen in Arts, Entertainment and Other Services (17.3%), Distribution, Transport, Hotels and Restaurants (14.5%) and Construction (11.3%) sectors. While Industry (excl. Construction) seen a drop of -0.8%.

A slight increase in total Employment Wage Subsidy in Q3 2021 compared to the previous quarter. Distribution, Transport, Hotels and Restaurants receives the largest amount of EWSS payments.
Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme payments make up 4% of total Compensation of Employees this quarter. The Arts, Entertainment and Other Services sector EWSS payments as a percentage of Compensation of Employees sees an increase this quarter, up to 19.2% from 17.6% in Q2 2021. Distribution, Transport, Hotels and Restaurants also sees an increase from 11.1% to 12.1% this quarter.
The Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme replaced the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme from 1 September 2020. More information on the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme is available on the Revenue.ie website.
