Domestic Milk Intake by milk processors and co-ops was estimated at 675.8 million litres in October 2024, an increase of 87.2 million litres (+14.8%) when compared with October 2023, but was down 16.3 million litres (-2.4%) when compared with the same month in 2022.
Fat content for October 2024 was 4.93%, up marginally from 4.92% in October 2023. Protein content was also up from 3.93% to 4.03% in the 12 months to October 2024.
Butter production rose from 20,700 tonnes in October 2023 to 25,000 tonnes in October 2024, an increase of 4,300 tonnes.
For the period January to October 2024, Domestic Milk Intake was estimated at 7.66 billion litres, a decline of 215.3 million litres (-2.7%) when compared with the same period in 2023, and down by 401 million litres (-5.0%) when compared with January to October 2022.
Figure 1 shows up-to-date trends of monthly domestic milk intake for 2023 and 2024.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (09 December 2024) published Milk Statistics for October 2024.
Commenting on the release, Stephanie Kelleher, Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said: “Today’s figures show that the Domestic Milk Intake in October 2024 by milk processors and co-ops rose by 87.2 million litres, or 14.8%, compared with the same month in 2023. The Domestic Milk Intake for the period January to October 2024 was at 7.66 billion litres, a fall of 2.7% compared with the corresponding value between January and October 2023. Butter production increased to 25,000 tonnes when compared with October 2023."
