Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 388.7 million litres in November 2023, a decrease of 96.2 million litres (-19.8%) when compared with November 2022 and down 77.1 million litres (-16.6%) when compared with November 2021.
Fat content remained largely static when comparing November 2022 at 4.98% and November 2023 at 5.0%, while Protein content dropped marginally from 3.90% in November 2022 to 3.89% in November 2023.
Butter production was down from 18,200 tonnes in November 2022 to 16,300 tonnes in November 2023.
In the eleven months from January to November 2023, Domestic Milk Intake was estimated at almost 8.3 billion litres, a decline of 276.9 million litres (-3.2%) when compared with the corresponding period for 2022, and down by 234.8 million litres (-2.8%) when compared with January to November 2021.
Table 1 presents analysis on month versus month and year-to-date comparisons of the current year and previous year's domestic milk intake.
Figure 1 shows up-to-date trends of monthly domestic milk intake for 2022 and 2023.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (12 January 2024) published Milk Statistics for November 2023.
Commenting on the release Dr Grzegorz Głaczyński, Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said: “The figures show a decrease in Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers of 19.8% in November 2023 when compared with the same month in 2022. Domestic Milk Intake fell by 3.2% (276.9 million litres) over the eleven-month period from January to November 2023, compared with the same period in 2022. Fat content remained largely static when comparing November 2023 at 5.0% and November 2022 at 4.98%, while Protein content declined marginally to 3.89% from 3.90% over the same period.”
