Milk Statistics May 2022

Domestic Milk Intake down by 2.4% in May 2022

Key Findings

  • Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 1,153.2 million litres for May 2022. This represents a 2.4% decrease over May 2021. 

  • Domestic Milk Intake for the period January to May 2022 was estimated at 3,567.0 million litres, a decrease of 38.8 million litres (-1.1%) when compared to the corresponding period for 2021.

  • Fat content increased from 3.94% in May 2021 to 3.95 % in May 2022. Protein content decreased from 3.49% to 3.47% for the same period.

  • Butter production increased by 2.4% from 31,400 tonnes in May 2021 to 32,100 tonnes in May 2022.

  • Skimmed Milk Powder production increased from 27,700 tonnes in May 2021 to 28,300 tonnes in May 2022.

Statistician's Comment

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (30 June 2022) published Milk Statistics for May 2022. 

Commenting on the release, Sophie Emerson, Statistician, said: “The figures show a decrease in domestic milk intake by creameries and pasteurisers of 2.4% in May 2022, compared to the same period in 2021. Domestic milk intake decreased during the period January to May 2022 by 1.1%, compared to the same period in 2021."
