Domestic Milk Intake by milk processors and co-ops was estimated at 753.8 million litres in March 2024, a decrease of 47.6 million litres (-5.9%) when compared with March 2023 and down 54.8 million litres (-6.8%) when compared with the same month in 2022.
Fat content for March 2024 was 4.40%, up from 4.35% in March 2023. Protein content fell from 3.31% to 3.25% in the 12 months to March 2024.
Skimmed Milk Powder production was down by 2,000 tonnes, from 10,600 tonnes in March 2023 to 8,600 tonnes in March 2024.
For the period January to March 2024, Domestic Milk Intake was estimated at 1,254.1 million litres, a decline of 108.7 million litres (-8%) when compared with the same period in 2023, and down by 105.2 million litres (-7.7%) when compared with January to March 2022.
Figure 1 shows up-to-date trends of monthly domestic milk intake for 2023 and 2024.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (07 May 2024) published Milk Statistics for March 2024.
Commenting on the release, Giselle Myles, Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said: “The figures show a decrease in Domestic Milk Intake by milk processors and co-ops of 5.9% in March 2024 when compared with the same month in 2023. The Fat content increased from 4.35% to 4.40% while Protein content decreased from 3.31% to 3.25% when compared with March 2023. Similarly, Butter and Skimmed Milk Powder fell by 2.8% and 18.3% respectively."
