Livestock Slaughterings January 2023

The number of sheep slaughtered in January 2023 increased by 10.8 % when compared to January 2022

Key Findings

  • An analysis of the data for January 2023 compared with January 2022 shows that Cattle slaughterings grew by 6.7%.

  • The number of Sheep slaughtered rose by 10.8% in January 2023 compared with January 2022. 

  • Pig slaughterings increased by 0.2% in January 2023 compared with January 2022.

Statistician's Comment

Commenting on the release, Mairead Griffin, Statistician in the Agriculture Accounts & Production Section, said: "Cattle slaughterings increased by 6.7% in January 2023 when compared with January 2022. Over that same period, the number of Sheep slaughtered rose by 10.8% while the number of Pigs slaughtered grew by 0.2%."
