Northern & Western region had the highest growth in median net wealth

In 2023, the region with the highest median net wealth was the Eastern & Midland region with a value of €264,400, followed by the Southern region on €251,700 and the Northern and Western region on €239,000. Since 2020, the Northern & Western region saw the biggest growth in the median net wealth value at 34%, followed by the Southern region at 32% and the Eastern & Midland region at 25%. Although median net wealth was highest in the Eastern & Midland region, households there were less likely to own the household median residence (HMR), other real estate property (excluding HMR and land), a self-employment business or land than in the other regions. See figure 4.2 and PxStat table HFC2001.

The higher median values of assets in the Eastern & Midland region, particularly in property, were the main drivers of the higher median net wealth seen in this region in 2023. The median HMR value in the Eastern & Midland region was €400,000 compared with €285,000 in the Southern region and €250,000 in the Northern & Western region.
