Total government revenue increased slightly by €0.1 billion compared with Q3 2022. Taxes were down by €0.6 billion, but this was offset by increases in social contributions, which were up by €0.2 billion, investment income which increased by €0.3 billion, and current transfer revenue which was up €0.1 billion.

At €28.3 billion, total expenditure in Q3 2023 was €1.4 billion more than last year (€26.9 billion).
Social benefits increased by €0.3 billion and there was an additional €0.7 billion on pay (compensation of employees). Interest payments were €0.2 billion higher than last year. Gross fixed capital formation also increased by €0.3 billion. Current transfers remained unchanged from the same quarter last year while capital transfers were up by €0.1 billion.
