Imports of goods rose by €399.2 million (+3.7%) to €11.1 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€10.7 billion).
Seasonally adjusted goods exports were €27.4 billion in September 2025, up €10.0 billion (+57.1%) compared with August 2025 (€17.4 billion).
Exports to the United States grew by €9.1 billion (+126%) to €16.3 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€7.2 billion).
Medical & Pharmaceutical Products exports increased by €7.9 billion (+73.6%) to €18.7 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€10.7 billion).
The most recent month’s data on External Trade in Goods figures are provisional and subject to revision. Revisions to the monthly series back data shall take place, if and as required, on foot of late survey returns, VAT returns and corrections made by traders. The data for the same month a year ago may be considered final – revisions would be applied only in exceptional circumstances. Revisions are applied also to the volume indices and to the seasonally adjusted data.

Seasonally adjusted goods exports increased by €10.0 billion (+57.1%) to €27.4 billion in September compared with August 2025 (€17.4 billion), according to preliminary figures.
Seasonally adjusted goods imports decreased by €1.5 billion (-11.9%) leading to an increase of €11.5 billion (+246.6%) in the seasonally adjusted trade surplus to €16.1 billion in September compared with August 2025 (€4.7 billion) (See Table 2).
Seasonal adjustment compares month-to-month data by removing fluctuations that may occur due to seasonal patterns in trade.
The (unadjusted) value of goods exports increased by €6.2 billion (+27.8%) to €28.5 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€22.3 billion).
The value of goods exports for the first nine months of 2025 increased by €46.1 billion (+27.7%) to €212.2 billion, when compared with the same period of 2024 (€166.1 billion).
The (unadjusted) value of goods imports increased by €399.2 million (+3.7%) to €11.1 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€10.7 billion).
The value of goods imports for the first nine months of 2025 increased by €5.5 billion (+5.5%) to €104.8 billion, when compared with the same period of 2024 (€99.3 billion).

In September 2025, Ireland’s top exporting partners were the United States, the Netherlands and Great Britain, with Ireland exporting 57.1% (€16.3 billion), 8.4% (€2.4 billion) and 4.8% (€1.4 billion) of total export goods respectively to these countries.
In September 2025, Ireland imported the highest value of goods from the United States, Great Britain and China with these countries representing 16.1% (€1.8 billion), 11.7% (€ 1.3 billion) and 9.9% (€1.1 billion) of the total import trade for September 2025.
Exports to Great Britain increased by €248.6 million (+22.4%) to €1.4 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€1.1 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of exports to Great Britain were Food & Live Animals at €453.0 million, and Chemicals & Related Products at €317.1 million, representing 33.4% and 23.4% of total exports to Great Britain in September 2025.
Imports from Great Britain increased by €71.5 million (+5.8%) to €1.3 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€1.2 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of imports from Great Britain were Food & Live Animals at €243.9 million, and Machinery & Transport Equipment at €234.9 million, representing 18.7% and 18.0% of total exports to Great Britain in September 2025.
Exports to the US increased by €9.1 billion (+126%) to €16.3 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€7.2 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of exports were Chemicals & Related Products at €14.8 billion and Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles at €714.1 million, representing 90.7% and 4.4% of total exports to the US in September 2025.
Imports from the US decreased by €184.8 million (-9.3%) to €1.8 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€2.0 billion). Imports from the US accounted for 16.1% of total import trade in September 2025.
The products which accounted for the largest share of imports were Machinery & Transport Equipment at €843.3 million and Chemicals & Related Products at €501.1 million, representing 46.9% and 27.9% of total imports from the US in September 2025.
In the first nine months of the year from January to September 2025, exports to the US increased by €47.6 billion (+90.2%) to €100.5 billion compared with the same period last year (€52.8 billion). Exports to the US accounted for 47.3% of total export trade year to date.

Exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products increased by €7.9 billion (+73.6%) to €18.7 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€10.7 billion). This represented 65.5% of total exports in September 2025.
Exports of Organic Chemicals decreased by €2.6 billion (-70.7%) to €1.1 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€3.6 billion).
Exports of Office Machines & Automatic Data Processing Machines increased by €805.4 million (+222.2%) to €1.2 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€362.5 million) (See Table 3).
Imports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products fell by €111.5 million (-7.7%) to €1.3 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€1.4 billion). This represented 11.9% of total imports in September 2025.
Imports of Organic Chemicals decreased by €192.2 million (-26.8%) to €525.8 million in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€718.0 million).
Imports of Office Machines & Automatic Data Processing Machines increased by €478.4 million (+61.6%) to €1.3 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€776.5 million) (See Table 3).

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (19 November 2025) published Goods Exports and Imports September 2025.
Commenting on the release, Jane Burmanje, Statistician in the International Trade in Goods Division said: “Ireland’s exports of goods exceeded €28 billion in September 2025. The largest increase in exports was due to pharmaceuticals which represented almost two-thirds (65.5%) or €18.7 billion of total exports.
Medical & Pharmaceutical Products rose by €7.9 billion (+73.6%) to €18.7 billion in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€10.7 billion).
Exports of goods to the United States more than doubled to €16.3 billion (+126%) in September 2025 compared with September 2024 (€7.2 billion) with Chemical & Related Products, which include Medical & Pharmaceutical Products, making up more than 90% of these exports (€14.8 billion).
Both imports and exports of goods were up in the first nine months of the year compared with the same period last year; exports increased by €46.1 billion (+27.7%) to €212.2 billion and imports rose by €5.5 billion (+5.5%) to €104.8 billion.”
