Exports of goods had a total value of €134.4 billion in the first five months of 2025 compared with the same period last year, an increase of €42.9 billion (+46.9%).
Goods imports rose by €4.2 billion (+7.8%) in January to May of 2025 compared with the same period in 2024.
Exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products grew by €5.8 billion (+73.9%) to €13.7 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€7.9 billion). This represented 58.7% of total export goods in May 2025.
Imports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products increased by €703.8 million (+60.6%) to €1.9 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€1.2 billion).
In May 2025, Ireland’s unadjusted exports of goods rose by €5.3 billion (+29.3%) to €23.3 billion compared with May 2024 (€18 billion).
The unadjusted imports for May 2025 fell by €296.4 million (-2.7%) to €10.7 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€11.0 billion).
Exports to the US increased by €4.9 billion (+86.5%) to €10.6 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€5.7 billion).
Year to date, January to May 2025 exports of goods to the US amounted to €70.8 billion, an increase of €42.8 billion (+153%) compared with the same period last year (€28 billion).
The most recent month’s data on External Trade in Goods figures are provisional and subject to revision. Revisions to the monthly series back data shall take place, if and as required, on foot of late survey returns, VAT returns and corrections made by traders. The data for the same month a year ago may be considered final – revisions would be applied only in exceptional circumstances. Revisions are applied also to the volume indices and to the seasonally adjusted data.

Seasonally adjusted goods exports increased by €1.1 billion (+5%) to €23.0 billion in May 2025 compared with April 2025(€21.9 billion), according to preliminary figures.
Seasonally adjusted goods imports decreased by €52.7 million (-0.5%) leading to an increase of €1.2 billion (+10.4%) in the seasonally adjusted trade surplus to €12.3 billion in May 2025 compared with April 2025 (€11.1 billion) (See Table 2).
Seasonal adjustment compares month-to-month data by removing fluctuations that may occur due to seasonal patterns in trade.
The (unadjusted) value of goods exports increased by €5.3 billion (+29.3%) to €23.3 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€18 billion).
The value of goods exports for the first five months of 2025 increased by €42.9 billion (+46.9%) to €134.4 billion, when compared with the same period of 2024 (€91.5 billion).
The (unadjusted) value of goods imports decreased by €296.4 million (-2.7%) to €10.7 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€11.0 billion).
The value of imported goods for the first five months of 2025 increased by €4.2 billion (+7.8%) to €57.7 billion, when compared with the same period of 2024 (€53.6 billion).

In May 2025, Ireland’s top exporting partners were the USA, Netherlands and Great Britain, with Ireland exporting 45.3 % (€10.6 billion), 10.6% (€2.5 billion) and 5.7% (€1.3 billion) of total export goods respectively to these countries.
In May 2025, Ireland imported the highest value of goods from the USA, Great Britain and Germany with these countries representing 16 % (€ 1.7 billion), 12.6% (€ 1.4 billion) and 9.8% (€ 1.1 billion) of the total import trade for May 2025.
Exports to Great Britain increased by €8.6 million (+0.7%) to €1.32 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€1.31 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of exports to Great Britain were Food & Live Animals at €424.3 million, and Machinery & Transport Equipment at €279.2 million, representing 32.1% and 21.1% of total exports to Great Britain in May 2025 respectively.
Imports from Great Britain fell by €109.6 million (-7.5%) to €1.35 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€1.46 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of imports from Great Britain were Mineral Fuels, Lubricants & Related Materials at €254.5 million, and Machinery & Transport Equipment at €250.6 million, representing 18.9% and 18.6% of total exports to Great Britain in May 2025.
Exports to the US increased by €4.9 billion (+86.5%) to €10.6 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€5.7 billion).
Exports to the US accounted for 45.3% of total export trade in May 2025. It accounted for 31.4% in May 2024.
The products which accounted for the largest share of exports were Chemicals & Related Products at €9.4 billion, Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles at €683.6 million and Machinery & Transport Equipment at €320.5 million, representing 88.8% 6.5% and 3.0% of total exports of goods to the US in May 2025.
Year to date, exports of goods to the US increased by €42.8 billion (+153%) to €70.8 billion compared with the same period last year (€28 billion).
Imports from the US fell by €470.7 million (-21.5%) to €1.7 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€2.2 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of imports were Chemicals & Related Products at €918.7 million, Machinery & Transport Equipment at €365.7 million and Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles at €244.9 million, representing 53.6% 21.3% and 14.3% of total import goods to the US in May 2025.

Exports of Organic Chemicals fell by €605 million (-35.5%) to €1.1 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€1.7 billion).
Exports of Office Machines & Automatic Data Processing Machines (including computers) increased by €390.7 million (+96%) to €797.7 million in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€407 million) (See Table 3).

Imports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products increased by €703.8 million (+60.6%) to €1.9 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€1.2 billion).
Imports of Organic Chemicals increased by €333.7 million (+88.8%) to €709.3 million in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€375.6 million).
Imports of Office Machines & Automatic Data Processing Machines (including computers) increased by €200.5 million (+30.8%) to €852.3 million in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€651.9 million) (See Table 3).

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (17 July 2025) published Goods Exports and Imports May 2025.
Commenting on the release Jane Burmanje, Statistician in the International Trade in Goods Division said: “In the first five months of the year, exports of goods increased by 47% (€42.9 billion) to €134.4 billion compared with the same period last year.
This is largely driven by growth in the exports of goods to the US. Year to date, January to May 2025 exports of goods to the US increased by 153% (€42.8 billion) to €70.8 billion compared with the same period last year (€28 billion).
In May 2025, the unadjusted value of goods exports increased by €5.3 billion (+29.3%) to €23.3 billion compared with May 2024.
The unadjusted value of imports decreased by €296.4 million (-2.7%) to €10.7 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024.
Exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products represented over half of all goods exported in May 2025 (58.7%). Exports of these goods increased by €5.8 billion (+73.9%) to €13.7 billion in May 2025 compared with May 2024 (€7.9 billion).”
