The (unadjusted) value of goods exports decreased by €919.2 million (-5.1%) to €17.2 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€18.2 billion).
The (unadjusted) value of goods imports fell by €92.1 million (-0.8%) to €12.0 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€12.1 billion).
In July 2025, Ireland’s top exporting partners were the United States (€4.4 billion), the Netherlands (€2.2 billion), and Germany (€1.5 billion).
Exports of goods to the US decreased by €909.4 million (-17.2%) to €4.4 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€5.3 billion).
Exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products, representing 40.4% of total export trade, fell by €106.2 million (-1.5%) to €7.0 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€7.1 billion).
Imports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products increased by €1.2 billion (+87%) to €2.5 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€1.3 billion). This represented 20.7% of total imports in July 2025.
There was an increase of €409.8 million (+8.2%) in the seasonally adjusted trade surplus to €5.4 billion in July 2025 compared with June 2025 (€5.0 billion).
The most recent month’s data on External Trade in Goods figures are provisional and subject to revision. Revisions to the monthly series back data shall take place, if and as required, on foot of late survey returns, VAT returns and corrections made by traders. The data for the same month a year ago may be considered final – revisions would be applied only in exceptional circumstances. Revisions are applied also to the volume indices and to the seasonally adjusted data.

Seasonally adjusted goods exports increased by €911.7 million (+5.4%) to €17.7 billion in July 2025 compared with June 2025 (€16.7 billion), according to preliminary figures.
Seasonally adjusted goods imports increased by €501.9 million (+4.3%) leading to an increase of €409.8 million (8.2%) in the seasonally adjusted trade surplus to €5.4 billion in July 2025 compared with June 2025 (€5.0 billion) (See Table 2).
Seasonal adjustment compares month-to-month data by removing fluctuations that may occur due to seasonal patterns in trade.

In July 2025, Ireland’s top exporting partners were the US, the Netherlands and Germany, with Ireland exporting 25.4 % (€4.4 billion), 12.6% (€2.2 billion) and 8.6% (€1.5 billion) of total export goods respectively to these countries.
Ireland imported the highest value of goods in July 2025 from Germany, the US and Great Britain with these countries representing 15.2 % (€1.8 billion), 14.0% (€1.7 billion) and 11.3% (€1.4 billion) of the total import trade for July 2025.
Exports to Great Britain increased by €22.2 million (+1.7%) to €1.29 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€1.27 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of exports to Great Britian were Food & Live Animals at €369.6 million, and Machinery & Transport Equipment at €316.7 million, representing 28.6% and 24.5% of total exports to Great Britain in July 2025.
Imports from Great Britain increased by €55 million (+4.2%) to €1.4 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€1.3 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of imports from Great Britian were Machinery & Transport Equipment at €288.7 million, and Food & Live Animals at €246.3 million, representing 21.4% and 18.2% of total imports from Great Britain in July 2025.
Exports to the US decreased by €909.4 million (-17.2%) to €4.4 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€5.3 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of exports were Chemicals & Related Products at €2.9 billion, Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles at €733.51 million and Machinery & Transport Equipment at €563.2 million, representing 65.6% 16.8% and 12.9% of total exports to the US in July 2025.
Imports of goods from the US fell by €798.1 million (-32.2%) to €1.7 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€2.5 billion). Imports from the US accounted for 14.0% of total import trade in July 2025.
The products which accounted for the largest share of imports to the US were Machinery & Transport Equipment at €688.93 million, Chemicals & Related Products at €561.52 million and Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles at €205.94 million, representing 41.1%, 33.5% and 12.3% of total good imports from the US in July 2025.

Exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products declined by €106.2 million (-1.5%) to €7.0 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€7.1 billion). This represented 40.4% of total exports in July 2025.
Exports of Organic Chemicals decreased by €1.1 billion (-47.4%) to €1.2 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€2.3 billion).
Exports of Office Machines & Automatic Data Processing Machines (including computers) increased by €540.5 million (+107.5%) to €1.0 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€502.6 million) (See Table 3).
Imports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products increased by €1.2 billion (+87%) to €2.5 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€1.3 billion). This represented 20.7% of total imports in July 2025.
Imports of Organic Chemicals increased by €126.6 million (+35.5%) to €483.4 million in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€356.8 million).
Imports of Office Machines & Automatic Data Processing Machines (including computers) increased by €292.7 million (+40.3%) to €1.0 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€727.0 million) (See Table 3).

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (15 September 2025) published Goods Exports and Imports July 2025.
Commenting on the release, Jane Burmanje, Statistician in the International Trade in Goods Division said: “Both exports and imports of goods decreased in July 2025 compared with July 2024. The value of goods exports declined by €919.2 million (-5.1%) to €17.2 billion and the value of goods imports fell by €92.1 million (-0.8%) to €12.0 billion.
The US remains one of our top exporting and importing partners. The US was our largest exporting partner in July 2025 with Ireland exporting 25.4 % (€4.4 billion) of all goods to the US. This was followed by the Netherlands, which accounted for 12.6% (€2.2 billion) of total export goods and Germany at 8.6% or €1.5 billion.
Ireland imported 14.0% (€1.7 billion) of all import goods from the US in July 2025, making it our second largest import trading partner, after Germany (15.2 % or €1.8 billion).
While imports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products increased by €1.2 billion (+87%) to €2.5 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€1.3 billion), exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products fell by €106.2 million (-1.5%) to €7.0 billion in July 2025 compared with July 2024 (€7.1 billion). July 2025 marked the second consecutive month of falling exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products.”
