The Agricultural Output Price Index for January 2026 rose by 0.9% in the month since December 2025 while the Input Price Index increased by 0.5%.
In the 12 months to January 2026, the Agricultural Output Price Index decreased by 6.6% while the Agricultural Input Price Index rose by 2.1%.
The most significant Output Price reductions in the 12 months to January 2026 were in Milk (-27.3%), Sheep (-13.9%), and Pigs (-13.9%) while Cattle and Poultry were up by 21.7% and 5.3% respectively.
Over the 12 months to January 2026, increases in Input Prices were recorded for Fertilisers (+11.6%), Veterinary Expenses (+7.1%), and Electricity (+4.6%).
Terms of Trade rose by 0.4% in January 2026 when compared with the previous month and was 8.5% lower when compared with January 2025.
The Agricultural Input Price sub-indices of ‘Other Goods and Services’ and ‘Buildings and Materials’ are partially informed by elements from the Consumer Price Index (CPI). From January 2026 the CPI uses the new European Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose Version 2 (ECOICOP ver.2) classification scheme. This change has resulted in some minor changes to the ‘Other Goods and Services’ and ‘Buildings and Materials’. More information is available from the CPI methodology page.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (12 March 2026) published Agricultural Price Indices January 2026.
Commenting on the release, Sam Scriven, Senior Statistician in the Agriculture Division, said: "In January 2026, the Agricultural Output Price Index rose by 0.9% compared with the previous month. Over the same period the Agricultural Input Price Index rose marginally by 0.5%.
Compared with January 2025, the Output Price Index decreased by 6.6% while the Input Price Index rose by 2.1%.
The most significant changes in the output prices in the 12 months to January 2026 were in Milk (-27.3%), Cattle (+21.7%), Sheep (-13.9%), and Pigs (-13.9%). The largest change in input prices when compared with January 2025 was in Fertilisers (+11.6%)."
