The volume of sales was highest in the West (Galway, Mayo, and Roscommon) region, where 13,637 acres of agricultural land changed hands. This compares with 127 acres sold in the Dublin region and with 5,199 acres in the South-East (Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, and Wexford) region. See Figure 2.1.
Purchasers in the South-West region (Cork and Kerry) spent €96.2 million on agricultural land, more than in any other region. At the other end of the spectrum, €1.8 million was spent in the Dublin region and €58.7 million in the Midlands (Laois, Longford, Offaly, and Westmeath) region. See Figure 2.2.
Purchasers in Dublin and the Mid-East (Kildare, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow) regions paid the highest median price per acre of €15,048 and €14,398 respectively. The land was most affordable in the West (Galway, Mayo, and Roscommon) region, where the median price was €6,745 per acre. See Figure 2.3.
The mean price of an acre of agricultural land was the highest in Dublin and the Mid-East (Kildare, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow) regions, where it reached €14,342 and €13,708 respectively. The mean price in the West region was €5,343 per acre, the lowest in the country. See Figure 2.4.
