Livestock slaughterings in slaughterhouses and meat plants
The purpose of the survey is to collect data on the number and carcass weight of all cattle, sheep and pigs and their respective subcategories slaughtered in slaughterhouses and meat plants during the calendar month.
The principal outputs are the number and carcass weight of all cattle, sheep and pigs slaughtered in a calendar month.
The livestock slaughterings data is collected monthly under Section 24 of the Statistics Act, 1993.
Participation in the survey is voluntary.
This survey is conducted to comply with the requirements of Regulation (EC) No 1165/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning livestock and meat statistics and to meet national requirements for information on agricultural outputs.
Our results are only available in aggregate form and we ensure that it is impossible to identify any person or undertaking. The data is used primarily by Eurostat but other users include various agricultural agencies and Government Departments.
Yes. All information supplied to the CSO is treated as strictly confidential. The Statistics Act, 1993 sets stringent confidentiality standards. Information collected may be used only for statistical purposes and no details related to an identifiable person or undertaking may be divulged to any other Government Department or body.
The data will be securely held for a maximum of ten years from the date of issue of this survey and can only be used for statistical purposes.
