Census of Agriculture 2020
The purpose of the 2020 Census of Agriculture is to compile statistics on the structure of all agricultural holdings as of 1st September 2020.
The data is required to meet national and EU needs for statistics on agricultural activity.
The Census of Agriculture survey is a statutory survey conducted every 10 years under the provisions of the Statistics (Census of Agriculture) Order, 2020 (S.I. No 281 of 2020). Under Sections 26 and 27 of the 1993 Statistics Act you are obliged by law to complete and return this form. Any person who fails or refuses to provide this information or who knowingly provides false information may be subject to prosecution under Part VI of the Act.
The statistics are also required under EU Regulation 2018/1091 on integrated farm statistics.
Our results are only ever made available to the public in aggregate form and we make sure that it is impossible for individuals or farms to be identified. The data collected in this survey will be made available to Eurostat to enable the examination of trends in the structure of agricultural holdings between Ireland and other EU Member States.
The data is used extensively by national and international agricultural agencies, Eurostat and Government Departments.
