It is a collaborative study between the Central Statistics Office (CSO) and the Department of Children, Disability and Equality (DCDE). GUI has provided an important evidence base for policy and services for children across the public sector since its establishment.

For Growing Up in Ireland Cohort '08, the population was made up of children born between 1st December 2007 and 30th June 2008. The Child Benefit Register was used as the sampling frame.
