The Import Price Index (IPI) - measures monthly price changes of products which are imported by domestic businesses under specified CPA codes from non-euro area countries. Further information about this survey can be found here - Import Price Index Survey overview - Statistics explained.
This Inquiry is conducted under the - Regulation (EU) 2019/2152 of the European Parliament concerning Business Statistics.
Enterprises importing goods belonging to CPA divisions 06.10, 06.20, 19.20, 20.14, 21.10, 21.20, 26.11, 26.20, 29.10, 32.50 from non-eurozone areas are selected. More information about CPA codes (including concordances) can be found here - ESTAT Statistical classification of products by activity.
Enterprises are selected from the CSO's business register on a probability by size basis. This means a larger enterprise has more chance of being selected than a small enterprise. This is due to the influence a larger enterprise may have on the sector as well as ensuring there isn't too much burden placed on the small enterprises. The IPI survey will also implement sample rotation after a few years where possible.
All information provided to the CSO is treated as strictly confidential. No identifiable details provided to the CSO may be divulged to any other government department or body.
All results from the survey are published in aggregated form (in this case a price index) and the CSO has strict controls in place to ensure that it is impossible to identify individual enterprises in any published results.
Further information can be found on the IPI Transparency Notice Page.
