Eurostat are in the process of re-referencing the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) from 2005 to 2015.

See the following notice:

On their website, Eurostat will replace HICP indices in the current reference year 2005 with data referenced to 2015.

To ensure fully synchronised datasets, the CSO will adopt a similar approach to Eurostat.  CSO will drop both the 1996 and 2005 referenced indices in favour of the 2015 indices.

For CSO published data, this change will take effect from the February 2016 release date of 10 March 2016.  The change only affects HICP indices and has no impact on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

For illustrative purposes the all-items HICP index (2015=100) has been added to Table 18 on the January 2016 release (published 18 February). The growth rates in this table have been calculated using the 2005 referenced indices.  However, when the 2005 indices are dropped from the table on the February 2016 release, the 2015 indices will then be used to calculate the growth rates which will result in small revisions up to a maximum of 0.1 percentage points.

If you have any questions or concerns in relation to the re-referencing of the HICP, please contact a member of the consumer prices team in the CSO.
