Reporting of gross expenditure on social protection in Ireland. Social protection refers to all interventions, from public or private bodies, which are aimed at reducing the burden of poverty and vulnerability on households and individuals. These interventions are typically grouped into eight categories or risk:- sickness/health care; disability; old age; survivors; family/children; unemployment; housing; and social exclusion. The interventions can be provided as cash payments or "in kind".
