Survey Name:

Quarterly Industrial Inquiry

The Quarterly Industrial Inquiry has been discontinued. The last publication was of the June 2007 data on 31st October 2007. It has been replaced by the new Earnings, Hours and Employment Costs Survey (EHECS). This survey collects data on employment, wages & salaries, hours and other labour costs. Results for the industrial and financial sectors were first published in the new Earnings and Labour Costs release on 17 August 2007. The results are available on the CSO website. The EHECS will, in time, expand to include all sectors of the economy.

Survey Purpose:

To provide estimates of the persons engaged, average earnings and hours worked for industrial and non-industrial workers employed in industrial establishments/companies

Legislative Basis:

Provide some of the information needed by National Accounts. IMF requires data to be published within 3 months of the reference period under Short term Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS).

Periodicity:

Quarterly

Target Population:

Enterprises in the NACE 10 - 41

Sampling Frame:

Based on the register we maintain in the Quarterly Services System (Sybase/powerbuilder)(original data though comes from Business Register)

Survey Size:

5000

Principal Variables Collected:

Gross earnings, hours worked and numbers employed by NACE, gender and category of worker. Also persons engaged data by NACE.

Principal External Users:

National Accounts, Eurostat, Government Depts, OECD, IMP, Economists, Consultants.
