The Central Statistics Office is proud to sponsor an award at the Young Scientist Technology Exhibition 2026. This award will be presented to the individual or group at YSTE 2026 for the most innovative use, or potential use, of CSO open data.
The Award for the Best Use of CSO Open Data is aimed at encouraging young people to use open data and is an excellent extra-curricular activity for students to add to their CV or College application. The student can develop skills such as research methodology, experiment design, data collection, evaluation and analysis, critical thinking, problem solving, communications, innovation and entrepreneurship. Projects entered into YSTE tend to support a cross curricular approach to STEM learning.
There is no separate entry process for this award. Judges will assess projects across all categories and formats in relation to statistical analyses, statistical processes or statistical outputs. Any project that makes use of CSO Open Data can be considered for the award. The award will go to what the judges consider to be the most interesting or innovative use or application of the data.
The Award for the Best Use of CSO Open Data will be presented at the Young Scientist Technology Exhibition 2026.
The winner will also receive a specially commissioned medal presented at the Annual CSO Awards Ceremony.
