This report is based on administrative student records contained in the Post-Primary Online Database (PPOD) compiled by the Department of Education and Skills. The analysis focuses on two academic years, 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 and examines educational and economic outcomes for these cohorts where students can be linked to other administrative records in the years 2012 – 2017. This report is an example of the policy-relevant research projects that the CSO are developing as part of its’ leadership role of the Irish Statistical System (ISS).
ESSnet on Linked Open Data
In 2019, CSO lead the development work for a digital transformation project that aimed to use Linked Open Data to facilitate communication and dissemination of European statistical. The development work was done in Ireland. The project which was referred to as the Linked Open Statistics (LOS) project, forms part of a wider European Statistical System (ESS) project for digital communication, user analytics and innovative products (DIGICOM). This technology aims to enhance publication and analysis of statistical data by transforming it to Linked Open Data which allows data from different sources to be more easily connected and queried, to generating new insights to address critical social, economic and environmental challenges.
PX Stat the new version of StatBank
PxStat is a Data Dissemination Management System especially designed for National Statistical Institutes and Statistical Organisations, developed by the CSO with the support of the PC-Axis statistical community and the collaboration of the Open Source community.
The system is powered by a lightweight engine and provides a modern, responsive and efficient Web Interface and Web Services (API) for managing and disseminating statistics.
End-Users can run extensive meta-data searches, filter results, explore data by "slicing and dicing", export results to different formats, visualise data over geographical layers, share their results and automate their processes by reading data via API queries. The outputs follow also the Open Data recommendations by providing access to multiple data formats (JSON-Stat, CSV, PX) and is ready to enable RDF and LOSD (Linked Open Statistical Data) to reach "5 Star Linked Open Data".
PxStat empowers the Data-Owners to manage the publication of their data through a Workflow to identify & prevent issues before going Live, track and schedule Releases to implement Embargo policies, compare data and meta-data across Releases over time and monitor the consumption of data via analytical tools.
