Background

The CSO has agreed with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine that the CSO will take over responsibility for submitting data to Eurostat for the annual voluntary Joint Forest Sector Questionnaire starting with the Eurostat 2019 questionnaire. Previously CSO Trade Division provided summary data as an input into the Department's JFSQ return. To ensure that CSO work on forest statistics and accounts and forest ecosystems is undertaken in a coordinated manner at national level, the CSO will establish a Forest Statistics Liaison Group.

Membership

The core membership will include:

- Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine;
- CSO Environment and Climate Division; and
- CSO Ecosystem Accounts Division.

Persons from other organisations may be invited to attend meetings.

Terms of Reference

The work of the Liaison Group will be primarily focused on areas such as:

- Eurostat Joint Forest Sector Questionnaires
- Eurostat Forest Accounts;
- Data consistency with the Department's Forestry Statistics Yearbook;
- Data consistency with COFORD statistics;
- Employment in forest-related sectors;
- Forest ecosystem accounts; and
- National data gaps in forestry statistics.

Frequency of Meetings

The Liaison Group will meet annually starting in 2021.
